BUCCANEER BOATS & MOULDINGS was formed in Camborne, Cornwall in 1996 by Paul Draper. He is a very accomplished boatbuilder and has a wealth of experience in all aspects of boatbuilding both wooden and primarily glass reinforced plastic.
He approached Gary Mitchell, a well known Cornish designer who was responsible for the designs of the Cygnus GM Range, the Halmatic Halfish Range consisting of the HF33, HF37, HF46 and the HF60 and Kingfisher Boats with the K20, K26 and K33 hulls. All were and still are the most popular designs of displacement fishing boats in the British Isles.
The first GRP hull for Buccaneer was the Buccaneer B16-6 Cove Boat design. This was the springboard to greater things and the range now comprises of nine designs which we claim to be the most comprehensive and modern range in the UK and probably Europe.
The range consists of the Buccaneer B16-6, B19, B21, B28, B33, B37, B40 and the B46. All the designs have the most up to date characteristics featuring maximum breadth which is carried fore and aft to maximise deck space. Bulbous bows are also integral in the hull designs. Any one of the range can be adapted for most modes of fishing or as general purpose workboats. For example, we have an enquiry for a B46 to be adapted as a pusher tug.
Recently, Paul Draper decided that the company needed to expand and to do that he agreed to form a limited company, namely Buccaneer Boats Ltd, and to go into partnership with four others including Gary Mitchell and Mike Beacham of the well known marine and industrial engine distributors Watermota of Newton Abbott in Devon.
This new partnership will enable the business to broaden its product range and also to have a greater output. Paul Draper is the new Managing Director responsible for production and Gary Mitchell, along with Mike Beacham will handle sales and enquiries. This team has great experience in the marine industry and between them they will ensure a first class product and prompt delivery dates.
The company also intends to bring out designs for the private and leisure industry and plans are being prepared for trawler yacht versions and weekend fishing cruisers based on their proven hulls.
Also in the pipeline are designs for an all new B21 and B24.
A traditional sailing version of a 20 foot fishing boat based on a very old design which evolved in the fishing village of Mevagissey, Cornwall. This fine craft will be produced in GRP as either an open day boat or with a two berth cabin.
In conclusion, the new company of Buccaneer Boats Ltd will be at the fore front of producing proven and practical designs moulded in GRP for all applications that require sound, reliable craft.
